The One True, Sovereign, Living Creator God
The path to the Gospel Truth begins in the very first verse of the very first chapter of the very first book of the Bible:
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” – Genesis 1:1.
The Bible begins with God’s perfect creation and ends with a reminder of God’s amazing grace— “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.” (the last verse of the Bible; Revelation 22:21).
From beginning to end, salvation is a gift of grace through Jesus Christ. This final blessing leaves believers with living hope, assurance, and joyful expectation as they… we, await His glorious return!
The “God” referred to here is not just ‘a god’ among many false gods. His name is God, with a capital “G,” THE GOD—the Great “I AM,” the ever-existing, self-existent Creator— Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Exodus 3:14)
God is a greater, supernatural infinite Being, a mind who is not physical or material, a spirit outside of space, time and matter, who was and who is and who is forever.
He is the Creator God, the divine “intelligent designer,” the Uncaused First Cause of the universe and everything in it. He made everything out of nothing and spoke it all into existence. He is the cause of all the effects which we can plainly see all around us. And just as a building has to have a builder and a painting has to have a painter… creation has to have a Creator. Nothing comes from nothing.
God is the provider and sustainer of all things which were created by Him and for His glory. He makes the rules and sets the standards for the world He created.
He is the God of the Bible, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of heaven, the God of miracles, the one true, sovereign, and only living God and there is no other God besides Him. He makes redemption and salvation possible only by His grace which is applied by the Holy Spirit through His Son, Jesus Christ.
God is holy—utterly set apart— perfectly righteous and pure, and you and I are not. We are all sinners, without exception, and have fallen short of His glory— His perfect standard of holiness and righteousness and there is an eternal penalty to be paid for that.
He is the triune God, one God, revealed in three distinct Persons. Elohim (means “The Mighty One / Supreme God”) is a plural noun. In Hebrew, plural is three or more, revealing the Trinity– the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, which is also revealed in Genesis 1:26 in the words “Us and Our.”
The Christian doctrine of the Trinity states that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit have always existed and are always fully functional as God and yet there is but one God.
God’s spiritual light in the world has three components: life, love and truth, wherein the Son (Jesus Christ) takes responsibility for bestowing eternal and spiritual life, the Father takes responsibility for bestowing love– the gracious purpose behind redemption, and the Holy Spirit takes responsibility for bringing God’s truth to the mind and heart and applies the saving work of Christ to all who genuinely believe.
Father, Son and Holy Spirit
God the Father – Who purposed salvation by His grace through His divine and perfect plan of redemption established before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4-5).
God the Son – Jesus Christ, who accomplished salvation through His perfect, sinless life, substitutional death where He shed His precious blood to pay the penalty for your sin, and victorious resurrection from the dead to give you eternal life. (John 19:30).
God the Holy Spirit – Who applies your salvation through conviction, regeneration, and sanctification (Titus 3:5). The Holy Spirit is fully God just as the Father and the Son are fully God.
God the Father is God our Savior. He is the fountain from which the Holy Spirit flows, to teach, regenerate, and save his fallen creatures; and this blessing comes to mankind through the person and finished redemptive work of Jesus Christ.
The universe, its life, and God’s plan revealed both in nature and Scripture for the redemption of billions of human beings reveals the work of three supernatural Persons who are one in essence, character, purpose and plan.
God is transcendent—existing beyond and above creation and He is immanent—always present and active within it. He continually governs, fine-tunes, and sustains the universe He made. (Isaiah 57:15) (Jeremiah 23:23-24)
He is omnipotent – God has unlimited power as evidenced by His miracles of the creation of the universe, the virgin birth, the resurrection of Christ, and the salvation and regeneration of souls and so much more. (Jeremiah 32:17)
He is omnipresent – He is everywhere at all times. (Acts 17:27-28)
He is omniscient – He knows the past, the present, and the future— all at once. (Isaiah 46:9-10)
From everlasting to everlasting, nothing can change who God is or separate us from His love. His promises are sure and Jesus Christ is our hope, our living hope—our only hope for those promises which are sealed by the Holy Spirit until His return.
