God’s Amazing Grace
“For by grace you have been saved…” — (Ephesians 2:8–9)
Grace is God’s unmerited favor for you.
By His grace God gives you what you need— a Savior, Jesus Christ, and not what you deserve— death, separation from God and eternal punishment.
He gave it to us when we didn’t deserve it— and we will never deserve it.
That’s what grace is!
The Biblical Definition of Grace:
“But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” — (Titus 3:4–7)
The forgiveness of sin and salvation is entirely owing to the free grace of God and the blood of Jesus Christ. We did absolutely nothing to deserve it.
Grace is a demonstration of God’s mercy— which is fresh every single day (Lamentations 3:22–23) and endureth for ever (from Psalm 136, KJV)— and His goodness, and His unchanging character. It is a favor freely bestowed upon those like us who are totally unable to return the favor.
By grace, God gives you what you do not deserve (favor and salvation). With mercy, God withholds what you do deserve because of sin (judgment and punishment).
It is God’s grace that draws you to genuine repentance and saving faith in Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit.
It is His grace you receive when you are born again.
It is His grace that sustains you every single day.
“For the wages of sin (the price that sin pays) is death, but the free gift of God (grace) is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
This verse teaches us two of the absolute, unchanging and indisputable truths about God’s amazing grace: 1) Spiritual death is the paycheck for every man’s slavery to sin. 2) Eternal life is a free gift that God gives undeserving sinners who repent and believe by faith in His Son.
The weaker we are, the more clearly God’s grace shines forth. His grace is not only the beginning of your salvation—it is the strength for your journey until He calls you home.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” — (2 Corinthians 12:9)
