Psalm 34:18
“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
Simple Explanation
God draws especially near to those who are hurting, grieving, humbled, or brokenhearted. A contrite spirit is a heart that is crushed, humble, and aware of its need for God.
The verse does not say believers will never suffer. It promises that God is close to us in our suffering and rescues, comforts, and sustains those who humbly turn to Him.
Put It into Action
When your heart is broken, do not withdraw from God—draw near to Him.
Pray honestly:
“Lord, my heart is broken, and I need You. Help me feel Your presence, trust Your promises, and depend upon Your strength. Comfort me, heal me, and carry me through this pain.”
Then take action by spending time in prayer, reading God’s Word, and sharing your burden with a mature Christian who can pray with you.
Bring your broken heart to God instead of trying to carry it alone.
