
“Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ” (Acts 16:31) is a remarkably compact summary of the Gospel. To genuinely believe in Christ means believing who He is, what He did, and what He promises.
Genuine means authentic, sincere, true, heartfelt, real, sincere, wholehearted belief.
We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. Matthew 16:16; John 20:31
We believe that Jesus Christ is truly God and truly man. John 1:1, 14; Colossians 2:9
We believe that all people are sinners and need a Savior. Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23
We believe that Jesus lived the perfectly righteous, sinless life that we could never live. Hebrews 4:15; 1 Peter 2:22
We believe that Jesus willingly died on the cross for our sins as our substitute. 1 Corinthians 15:3; 1 Peter 2:24; 2 Corinthians 5:21
We believe that His sacrifice was sufficient to pay the penalty for sin and accomplish redemption. John 19:30; Hebrews 10:10–14
We believe that God raised Jesus bodily from the dead on the third day. 1 Corinthians 15:4; Romans 10:9
We believe that by the resurrection, Jesus conquered sin, death, hell, Satan and all the power of darkness and is alive forevermore. Romans 6:9; Revelation 1:18

- Believe that everyone who genuinely trusts in Him will be forgiven, justified, reconciled to God, and given eternal life — John 3:16; Romans 5:1, 10; Ephesians 1:7.
- Believe that He will return, raise the dead, judge the world, and reign forever — John 5:28–29; Acts 17:31; Revelation 22:12.
- Believe His promises enough to personally entrust yourself to Him — John 6:37; 2 Timothy 1:12.
The heart of it could be stated this way:
Genuinely believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and Lord, that He lived the sinless life you could never live, died in your place for your sins, rose bodily from the dead, and is the only Savior who can reconcile you to God and give you eternal life. Then place your faith and trust in Him alone for the salvation of your soul.
