Who Jesus Is and What He Has Done For Us

God incarnate means God in human flesh—God the Son took on a true human nature without ceasing to be fully God.

A tight wording would be:

Jesus Christ is God incarnate—God the Son in human form, truly God and truly man.

John 1:1 establishes His deity, and John 1:14 states that “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” He did not stop being God when He became man; He added true humanity to His divine nature.

Jesus is the Christ—the promised Messiah and Anointed One—the eternal Son of the living God, God the Son, the second person of the triune God, truly God and truly man, the visible image of the invisible God, the Creator and Sustainer of all things, and the only Savior of sinners. He existed before all things, all things were created through Him and for Him, and in everything He is preeminent. In fulfillment of God’s eternal plan of redemption, He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, was born of a virgin, took on true humanity without ceasing to be God, and lived the perfectly righteous, sinless life we could never live. As the spotless Lamb of God, He willingly became our substitute on the cross, bore our sins and the judgment we deserved, shed His blood to make peace with God, and died the death we deserved. On the third day He rose bodily and victoriously from the grave, conquering sin, death, Satan, and the powers of darkness. He ascended to heaven, reigns at the right hand of the Father with all authority in heaven and on earth, and will return as King and Judge. Through His finished redemptive work, God graciously provides forgiveness, reconciliation, righteousness, eternal life, and salvation to all who genuinely repent and place their saving faith and trust in Him. There is no other Savior, no other gospel, and no other way to the Father—Jesus Christ is Lord, and He alone is worthy of all worship, honor, obedience, and praise.

Jesus is the Christ, the eternal Son of the one true God, truly/fully God and truly/fully man, the promised Messiah, the anointed One, Savior, Lord, and King. He came from heaven, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, was born of a virgin, lived a perfectly sinless life, revealed the Father, taught the truth, performed mighty works, and willingly died on the cross as the perfect sacrifice for our sins. He bore the judgment we deserved, rose bodily from the grave, conquered sin and death, ascended to heaven, and now reigns at the right hand of the Father. Through genuine repentance and saving faith in Him applied by the Holy Spirit, sinners receive forgiveness, reconciliation with God, eternal life, and the sure hope of resurrection and glory. He is coming again to judge the world, defeat evil, gather His people, and reign forever.

We believe in God the Father, the Creator of the universe and everything in it, the one true sovereign, living God who is Holy, perfectly righteous and pure — and we are not.

We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son and our Lord. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into the realm of the dead, completed His victory over sin, death, Satan and all the power of darkness, and rose bodily from the grave on the third day. He ascended into heaven and now sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. One day, He will return to judge the living and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Spirit and in the church—the body of Christ, made up of all genuine believers in Jesus throughout the world and throughout history. Christ is the Head of the church, and every believer is a member of His body, united together by one Spirit, one faith, and one Lord. We believe in the fellowship of believers, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.

Amen.
